Sha'ban: A Month Where Deeds Are Raised

The Prophet ﷺ said:“It is a month that people neglect, between Rajab and Ramadan.
It is a month in which actions are raised to the Lord of the Worlds,
and I love for my actions to be raised while I am fasting.”
(Sunan an-Nasāʾī)

Sha'ban is a month where deeds are presented, hearts are realigned, and intentions are refined before Ramadan arrives.

Though Allah is All-Knowing, the scholars explain that these moments of raising are invitations for the believer to be intentional — to present deeds they hope will be met with Allah’s mercy and acceptance.

There is:

• and a yearly raising — in the month of Sha'ban

For this reason, the Prophet ﷺ filled Sha'ban with worship.

Sayyidah ʿĀʾishah (raḍiyAllāhu ʿanhā) said:

“I did not see the Messenger of Allah ﷺ fasting in any month more than Sha'ban.”
(Bukhārī & Muslim)

The scholars likened acts of worship in Sha'ban to voluntary prayers before an obligatory one — they mend what is lacking and prepare the soul for what is to come.

Among the greatest deeds in Sha'ban are:

• abundant ṣalawāt upon the Prophet ﷺ
• charity given sincerely for the sake of Allah ﷻ
